Shredding Of Non-Paper Products

Shredding of non paper products

Magnetic and optical media used with computer systems have the potential to store enormous volumes of data. A million records can be stored on a single CD. As the UK Government agencies have demonstrated, the potential for criminals who acquire a single disc or tape is frightening. The consequences and damage to reputation of the company that loses a storage device are huge and significant fines can follow.

Most non paper products when shredded are not suitable for recycling. This is because often they contain a mixture of plastics that are difficult to segregate when shredded. Therefore the shredded material is unloaded at a registered landfill site. Whenever possible we minimise the volume going to landfill by separating out the storage cases prior to shredding. For large quantities of non paper products we will arrange a separate shredding visit when the truck is empty of paper. For small quantities we will collect the material during a routine visit, store the material securely at our offices and then shred the material as soon as the truck is empty.
